Tips for finding the best moving truck rental companies

Benefits of using DIY moving truck rental companies

Moving isn’t usually a fun time, because even if you’re looking forward to relocating, it’s the moving that’s often the sticking point. So one of the biggest decisions you’ll need to make is whether to choose a regular transport company or one of the DIY moving truck rental companies.

An increasing number of people are opting to manage their own relocation for three very simple reasons. First, you have complete control over your move, second, you can save a lot of money, and third, you have much more flexibility and options for your move.

Keep control of your move

One of the big benefits of DIY moving truck rental companies is that your relocation is under your control. This means that you can pack everything yourself and know where it’s located on the truck, even selecting the best spots on the truck for specific items. When you unload the truck you can place everything straight into the right rooms instead of trying to sort it all out afterwards.

Save lots of money

If you are on a budget, then a DIY move is your best option and hiring your own truck will save you a significant amount of money. All you need to pay for is the hire of the truck, not the labour involved in loading and unloading the truck. So it’s a very popular option with many people in south-east Queensland.

More options & flexibility

With DIY moving truck rental companies you decide when you want to move, because you don’t have to fit into a transport company’s schedule. You can even stop off on the way to break up a long trip and take as long as you want to drive to your new destination. Then you can take a day or two to unload the truck, giving you time to recover and make sure that all your belongings are in the right place before returning the truck.

3 Tips for finding the best moving truck rental company

Next, let’s take a look at some of the factors you need to consider when comparing moving truck rental companies, so you find the one that’s best for your needs.

What types of trucks are available?

Now it’s time to decide on the type of truck you need for your move. There are a few choices on the market and at Andy’s Auto Rentals, we have a great range of vans and trucks that are perfect for a DIY move (we are one of the best moving truck rental companies in south-east Queensland!). In general these are split between utility vans and trucks, but let’s take a closer look at what we have on offer.

  • Renault Master Jumbo Van: With three seats in the front, auto transmission and 13.8 cubes of space in the back, the Renault is a great van for moving a small household. It’s also perfect if you are helping out a mate with their move or want to transfer furniture or large appliances from one place to another
  • Toyota Super Long Wheel Base: With a smaller cargo section than the Renault at only 9.3 cubes, this Toyota is ideal for quick moves when you don’t have a lot of furniture. It’s also easy to park and manoeuvre in tight spaces.
  • Toyota Hiace Automatic or Manual Van: With an even smaller cargo hold at 5 to 6 cubes, the Hiace is as easy to drive as a car. It’s also ideal for moving small or medium size items in multiple loads.
  • Mitsubishi Triton Dual Cab: If you don’t have much to move but want to do it in style, then this dual cab is the ticket. It’s perfect for moving large fridges, beds and other furniture and can seat four passengers as well as the driver.
  • Toyota Hilux Caged Ute: Another option for your move is this caged Ute, which might not suit everyone’s needs. It’s ideal, however, if you don’t have a great deal to move and want to make sure that it’s stored safely on the back of the Ute. Since it also has a tow bar, you can fill up a trailer as well!
  • Toyota Hilux Automatic or Manual Drop Side Ute: With a one-tonne capacity, these drop side Utes are available in either manual or auto transmissions and are another great option. The drop sides make them easy to load and unload and the tow bar gives you even more options.
  • Isuzu 3, 6 or 9 Tonne Pantec: If you want to move an entire house in one trip then you’re going to need something bigger than a van or a Ute. This is where our trucks come into the picture and you can select from the 3, 6 or 9 tonne trucks. The only one that you can drive with a car license is the smaller 3 tonne truck, but that’s usually big enough for most household moves (it’s also the only auto option). The other two trucks require a MR licence to drive. All three come with hydraulic lifts making it very easy to load and unload.
  • Don’t forget to compare prices

Once you have decided to opt for a DIY move, you are already ahead of the game as far as saving money is concerned. However, there are still significant differences in the costs charged by moving truck rental companies, so you need to be on your toes. At Andy’s Auto Rentals we make sure that our prices are very competitive and consider ourselves the best value hire company in south-east Queensland. If you want to check out our prices, either fill in the availability form on our website, which also gives you our prices for that vehicle or give us a call.
    Pickup and drop off points
If you hire a truck at Logan because you’re moving to Tweed Heads, the last thing you want to do at the end of a long day of loading and unloading is to drive the truck all the way back to Logan! So we make it easy for our customers by giving them the option of dropping off their hire vehicle at one of our other offices. Sometimes you need to pay a small additional fee for this service, but it’s nothing compared to the convenience of dropping the vehicle off close to your destination.
